RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Guttmacher Institute. Assist with social science research pertaining to reproductive behavior and health services (principally family planning, sexual behavior and abortion) in both domestic and international contexts. Depending on qualifications and workflow, duties may include assisting with survey fielding, phone follow-up of survey responses, questionnaire coding, data processing, table construction, library work and other research assistance. Additional Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required. Experience, training and/or interest in the field of reproductive health is helpful. The position requires good organizational and communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail, computer aptitude, and ability to work well both individually and in a group. Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and/or statistical analysis software is desirable. PROGRAM ASSISTANT

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an international learned society founded in 1780, seeks a Program Assistant at its Cambridge, Massachusetts headquarters. The Program Assistant will provide direct administrative and research support for Project Directors in programs on the Humanities and Culture, Social Policy and American Institutions, and Education. Duties include (but are not limited to): Coordinating all aspects of mailings, meetings, conferences, and publications; Working with webmaster to maintain websites; Writing, editing, and proofreading correspondence, memos, reports, and minutes; Maintaining databases; Assisting with diverse qualitative and quantitative research activities. The ideal applicant will have: excellent organization skills, strong motivation, and the ability to work both independently and with others; a Master's or Bachelor's degree in the humanities or social sciences; one to two years of relevant work and/or research experience; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and basic HTML (experience using SAS, SPSS, or similar systems, particularly for analysis of large surveys and censuses, would be highly desirable); strong writing and research skills; interest and experience in the Academy’s program areas.
